Day-by-day itinerary
Drive north through the green central highlands to the Aberdare range. Check in at your tree lodge and spend the evening watching elephant, buffalo and perhaps the shy bongo at the floodlit waterhole.
Cross the equator to Ol Pejeta Conservancy on the Laikipia plateau. Visit the chimpanzee sanctuary and the endangered species enclosure, home to the last northern white rhinos, and enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Morning game drive, then continue around Mount Kenya to Meru National Park — lush, wild and rarely visited, the setting of Born Free. Afternoon game drive along the rivers.
Drive north into the arid lands of Samburu. Afternoon game drive along the Ewaso Nyiro River in search of reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk and oryx.
Morning and afternoon game drives with time to relax by the river at midday. Optional visit to a Samburu manyatta to learn about local culture.
A scenic drive south via Nyahururu (Thomson’s Falls) into the Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha. Evening at leisure by the lake.
Morning boat ride among hippos and birdlife, optional walk on Crescent Island, then drive to the Maasai Mara for an afternoon game drive.
A full day exploring the Mara with a picnic lunch, following the big cats and — in season — the Great Migration.
A final sunrise game drive and breakfast before the drive back to Nairobi.
